Affirm may contact merchant partners who use a virtual card implementation to notify them of changes to Bank Identification Numbers. Read below if you have questions about how these changes might affect your systems.
What is a BIN?
A BIN is a Bank Identification Number, or the first 6-10 digits on a virtual card. Some merchants will use this information to identify Affirm transactions within their systems.
Check more details and a full list of BIN numbers that Affirm may return here.
There are many ways to track Affirm transactions, so if you don’t currently use BINs to do this, you are not obliged to start now.
How to update the systems
If you’re using BIN tracking, contact your developer for assistance with updating your system to account for the new numbers. They can also provide you with directions for future changes.
I don’t use BINs to track transactions, what should I do?
If you don’t use BINs anywhere in your system, disregard Affirm’s notification about BIN changes.
I don't know if I use BINs, what should I do?
If you’re not sure whether you are using BINs or not, then you are probably not using them to track Affirm transactions in your system. Therefore, it’s safe to disregard the message.
You can also reach out to your developer to double-check with them, but this change is not likely to break your integration unless you’re checking BINs before card authorization.
