If you can’t add a new user to the Affirm Merchant Dashboard, it can be that the user has already been added in a different instance of the Affirm/Merchant Dashboard. Users can’t be added to multiple dashboards with the same email. However, a single user can have multiple email addresses from the same or different providers connected to multiple dashboards.

Whenever you can’t add a user, check if the email address you’re trying to add already exists on a different Merchant Dashboard.

If the user’s email address is already on a different dashboard, this email address will need to be deleted from the current dashboard so you can add it to a new one.

If you want to add a user to a different dashboard without deleting the email from another dashboard, you can add a different email address from this user.

An underutilized Gmail (if you have an email account ending in @gmail.com, or use Gmail email services for your company) trick can be used in this situation:
- If you add “+1” (or any numbers/letters) to the end of your Gmail handle, Gmail recognizes it as belonging to your email address but it looks like a unique email address to the site for which you are registering an account.
- So, if your Gmail address is theowner@mybusiness.com, you can sign students up for a site with usernames following the pattern of: theowner+1@mybusiness.com, theowner+2@mybusiness.com, theowner+3@mybusiness.com, and so forth.
- If you add “+1” (or any numbers/letters) to the end of your Gmail handle, Gmail recognizes it as belonging to your email address but it looks like a unique email address to the site for which you are registering an account.

If the user’s email address is already on a different dashboard, this email address will need to be deleted from the current dashboard so you can add it to a new one.
